Case Study 31: Retired Bishop Geoffrey Robinson

The Royal Commission is holding a public hearing to hear the evidence of retired Bishop Geoffrey Robinson in Sydney on 24 August 2015.

The scope and purpose of the hearing relates to:

  1. The history and development of the Catholic Church’s response to child sexual abuse prior to the introduction of Towards Healing.
  2. His membership of the College of Consultors of the Archdiocese of Sydney.
  3. The operation of Encompass Australasia.
  4. His discussions with senior Vatican officials.
  5. Any related matters.

Bishop Robinson is the only witness and in this hearing and his evidence will be used in a latter public hearing in early 2017 into the broader response of the Catholic Church to matters of child sexual abuse by its clergy and religious.
